HurriCrane Racing, Reece Racing, and 1 more like this

The four way tie in BASX Pro was absolutely crazy, it's doubtful that would happen again in ten lifetimes. However, it got me to thinking, the probability of a four way tie out to .000X is astronomically improbable. I also wondered how tie positions are displayed on the screen, are they randomized, or perhaps placed by the software by an additional decimal location. To get a better overall picture of how each racers 2.9471 time was determined, I averaged the 4 runs of each racer from the 1st BASX final, the results lead me down a rabbit hole I didn't anticipate.
BASX final 1
Reece : 2.94707
Derbyboyz : 2.94710
JBD : 2.94712
DWS : 2.94712
This order also coincides with the racer placement displayed by the computer.
To be clear, the race is over, winners are crowned, and the results should be accepted and supported by everyone. However, if you look at the numbers above, Reece clearly won BASX Pro, there really was no need for a second BASX final. Reece went from 1st to 4th by having a second final. My best guess is, as with most mathematical rounding, the software rounds anything from 0-4 down, and 5-9 up. As the competition has gotten tighter and tighter, perhaps it would be better to decide ties by utilizing a non rounding 5th decimal location, at least in the finals.
Since Reece had a 7 in his 5th decimal location, his 2.94707 rounded up to a 2.9471, while JBD and DWS had their 2.94712 scores rounded down to a 2.9471. This rounding ended up costing Reece a 1st place finish in BASX, as well as a 4th place finish in the overall.
After analyzing things further, the BASX 2 final changed all four finishing positions from the BASX 1 final. It also changed four of the top five places in the overall. The biggest shocker was that rounding DWS from a 2.94712, down to a 2.9471, ended up costing HurriCrane the overall title ! It's crazy that rounding .0000x up or down can have such an effect.
Rounding is non biased and fair for everyone, but IMO it doesn't accurately decide the fastest car . If you went strictly by the numbers ran, with no rounding, Reece would be the BASX champion, and HurriCrane would be the MOTM overall champion.
Using a 0-4 down, 5-9 up rounding format, you can see below where rounding is a problem.
Car A :
2.9471
2.9470
2.9471
2.9470
= avg 2.9471
Car B :
2.9473
2.0470
2.9470
2.9471
= avg 2.9471
While both cars show a 2.9471 average, car A was clearly the faster car.
I'm just wondering everyone's thoughts on possibly changing the scoring format for next season. I really enjoyed the suspense of the 2nd BASX final, but I think it inadvertently changed the true outcome of the MOTM finals.
