Alright so this is Nailhead. I didn't want to flood the showstopper thread with pictures and info so I'll do that here. Probably more info than y'all want, but the only thing I like almost as much as building cars is talking about building cars. Lucky you.
This is the car that I've been racing as Unfinished Business. It's a 65 Buick Riviera built from an AMT kit. I was going for a lean and mean look so I kept it super simple. Only decal is the license plate. Everything else is just black paint and chrome with a little red for the tail lights. I left the mirrors off and shaved the door handles to add to the clean look. Certainly doesn't make much of a difference with aero.
Paint is 3 coats Zero Paints gray filler primer, wet sanded to 1000 grit. Base was initially 3 coats Gravity Colors Anthracite Black, but that showed a bunch of flaws that I couldn't see in the primer, so I wet sanded it back down with 1000 grit and then shot it again with 3 more coats black. Top coat is 2 mist coats and 2 wet coats of Gravity Colors 2K clear. The clear coat was lightly wet sanded with 2000 grit to remove dust specs and orange peel. Car was then polished with Scratch-x followed by McGuire's ultimate compound and finally McGuire's ultimate polish. When trim and detail work was finished, the paint was then waxed with Zero Paints finishing wax.
Trim around the windows and the wiper arms was done with bright chrome Bare Metal Foil. Wheel trim rings were done with a 2mm Molotow liquid chrome pen. ( first time I've used one, and it worked super awesome ) Axle heads were blacked out with a sharpie. Grill was black washed with Tamiya panel line accent paint to bring out the detail. And tail lights were hand painted with thinned down Tamiya clear red. Oh and the windows were painted from the inside with Tamiya clear smoke.
