How do I prep thin wheels? I ordered a set with axles from Jewkes and they are so tight that they don't free spin. I polished a Tig rod to 0.089" and they seem to spin on that. Should I attempt to polish down the axles or open up the wheels?

FYI, this is my daughter's sibling car and will run on only one side like my son's two wheeler. I am also trying to figure out what to use for retainers if I run the single rear axle instead of nails.

I have a 0.0965" reamer and the axles seem to be 0.0912", 0.0913", 0.0914", & 0.0924". I am worried about using the reamer though since I would probably have to free hand it without a lathe right now. I am assuming I need a 0.0915" reamer and polish the bore after? This is based on the general rule of thumb for diametrical clearance of 1.5 miles per inch of bore diameter (0.0913" x 1.5 Mila = 0.0001" clearance)

Sorry I lack the expertise to answer your machining questions...

But your new design here has me wondering what your plans are for this. The design as it sits is not intuitive for the person staging the cars (or do you stage your own?). What side of the rail would you put it on?

How are you intending to hold it to its lane?

Is it a rail runner? If so, it would need to be a 'reverse' rail runner, and have the DFW steer to the left, toward the dominant side instead of the usual away from it.

Finally, I'd reconfigure the weights just a little. I'd expect better aero performance by pulling the lowest weight from the back stack and putting it on the forward stack. I'd also put a small fairing in front of the weights. But if you have the ability to test on a track for best configuration, go with that.

Thanks for the suggestion on the aero. Got me thinking and I came up with a balsa fender for the underside. Right now it is a balancing game between weight placement (trying to get CG 1/2" in front of rear wheel) and minimizing cross sectional area.

Kinda frustrating especially considering that I bought their recommended axles!

Certainly interesting!

It's hard to tell through pics, but I think your pin might be too long. The rails on a Best Track are 1-5/8" wide. You want your pin to turn down at or a little closer than 1-3/4" from the wheel.

With your balsa fairing and pin, how are you on weight?

I actually bought the xs2 wheels. I followed
