I'm reaching out to all racers in the 2019 FWL Fire Series (see list below). Please respond to this thread with a 'yes' or 'no' to the following question. Are you OK with a rules addendum for the rest of the season and following seasons to allow 3D Printed Bodies in the class? Thank you for your time.

The main reason for the split in the FWU class from last year was to allow for 3d printed in FWU, leaving FWL for wood bodies... the second argument was for wheels... no.

Seems to me that there's a class for that...

I know my opinion wasn't requested, but I feel like giving it anyway ( even though I know better )... Instead of trying to adapt the rules of a class to the way you want to build, perhaps you should adapt the way you build to the rules of the class you want to run.

A personal example would be that I would love to build a 69 Dodge Daytona for Street Rod, but the body, at 8.75", is a half inch too long to fit within the class rules. So I'm looking for something else ( that isn't a vette

) that does fit within the rules.

Not trying to stir it up here, and I've got no beef with anybody personally, but there are 12 classes in this league. If a class doesn't fit what and how you want to build, don't run in it. Run in the classes that do.

Just sayin...

Well actually there are some that care:

Don't care - 1
No - 4
Yes - 1
Missing Something? - 1

So at least 5 out of the 7 care somewhat

A few facts:

If we were going to change the rules, we wouldn't do it mid season.

If we were going to change the rule I wouldn't put up a poll again. Learned my lesson on that one.

To my knowledge nobody has received points in FWL by running a non-wood body.

First let me preface this by acknowledging that many of you may look at this and say TL;DR. I fully under stand that, I often do the same. But typically its due to the authors complete lack of flair and utter communicative incompetence.

But the truth is Al, there are many who will shoot you down on any suggestion simply because its coming from you (you know who you are).
I really like you Al. I've gotten to know you on a personal level, I love your sense of humor, but at times it does not come off well on the forums. Personally, I am way more guilty of that than you are, but since it's well known that I give exactly zero f***s about that, I can pull it off. I have far too many family members I am expected to tiptoe around for me continue that practice in my personal time (let's be honest, I really don't tiptoe there either)
Anyway. The takeaway is this; If it were anyone else but you, these suggestions would have legs to stand on. If it had been BracketRacer for example (I'll pick on him since he is getting adept at 3D printing), had it been him who pioneered 3D bodies, put the time, effort and experimentation into it like you had, people would be far more receptive. I find this sad because it will ultimately stunt the growth and innovation in this hobby. What is the real reason for this? Are we really purists to that extent? Or simply because its coming from you? If we were really purists, building and tuning our own cars would be paramount....don't get me started...

So yeah, its the Pinewood Derby. It's just a name fellas. And BTW, this is not the Cub Scouts.

So take aim, light me up. Let's hear what you got.

I am building a FWL car for the November race, so I will add my thoughts to this thread.

I don't care what material your car is made of. I don't care if you use a router, a CNC machine, a laser cutter, 3D printer, glue it together, buy a body from a vendor, have the vendor drill it for you or drill it yourself, or buy a car.

It is a few hours of racing each month and what material one uses to build a car, or how its built, or by whom, its not worth getting all bent out of shape over. Just enjoy the racing and at the end of the race, congratulate everyone who raced.
